We have received the following update from Cormac about the work that they are undertaking under the road at Kea Corner.
The emergency works to strengthen a cattle creep arch structure which supports the A39 one hundred metres north of the Kea Junction near Playing Place have commenced on site.
The essential emergency works have been implemented following identified road surfacing subsidence on the A39 Truro bound lane coupled with dilapidation of the arch structure.
The scheme is to address the failing structure and weaken embankment noted immediately adjacent to the structure on either side.
The A39 carries 26000 vehicles per day which increases through the summer months, as such the works have been undertaken off line to prevent any disruption to traffic. This appears to have been successful however it has resulted in a slightly longer construction period. There are also precast parapet units being utilised, constructed on site but in the compound which will then be lifted and fixed into place thus keeping traffic disruption to a minimum.
